Microsoft 365 features that help users manage their subscriptions, account settings, and billing information.
After canceling a Microsoft 365 subscription (or turning off recurring billing), the subscription stays active and fully usable until its expiration date. After it expires:
- For Microsoft 365 for home (Basic, Personal, Family, Premium):
- Access to premium subscription benefits (premium Office apps, 1 TB OneDrive, advanced Outlook/OneDrive security, etc.) stops after the subscription ends.
- Storage reverts to the free allowance (5 GB OneDrive + 15 GB Outlook.com). If more than the free allowance is in use:
- New files can’t be uploaded/edited/synced to OneDrive.
- Outlook.com can’t send or receive new email.
- OneDrive content may be deleted after a grace period.
- For Outlook.com specifically, canceling or letting Microsoft 365 expire removes only the premium benefits; the Outlook.com account itself remains, but without the subscriber-only features.
To keep using Office apps with full functionality after expiration, an active subscription or a non-subscription (perpetual) Office license is required. Otherwise, apps will eventually drop to reduced/limited functionality.
