i have been locked out of my account for over a month now. I had a landline 30 years ago that is connected to this account, ******@msn.com

EVERY time i try to get in it says we will send you a code to the landline , which has been disconnected years ago.

I keep being sent around in circles asking me to get recovery code from a disconnected land line. I did it so often over a month ago that i was locked out

I need a telephone number to call and talk to a human. Im a veteran over 70 years old and I don't know what a web browser is from my password...

PLEASE I need to speak to a human to correct my person information and get land line off my records. EVERY attempt to do that has failed and im locked out... Chris Wilson [removed to protect privacy] is my cell

Hey there! Nice to meet you!

Since it is not possible to receive verification codes from a landline number for a password reset, I'm afraid the only way to recover/unblock the account is through the account recovery web form: https://account.live.com/acsr

Important: If you have an active 2FA, ACSR will inform you that your recovery request will be ignored, but since you have a landline recovery number, this means that you do not have an active 2FA, as you can't sign in without providing the codes from your verification method.

You'll need to keep trying until you're verified by Microsoft, and you can do this up to 2 times every 24 hours.

If you didn't receive the results from the account recovery webform, please try submitting another request via Incognito/InPrivate window and using different devices and network services. Then please check your email inbox, junk, and spam folders.

If your Microsoft account recovery request was not granted, please review this link for tips on improving your chances of a successful recovery: https://support.microsoft.com/office/dc56c3e3-dff0-4ed5-8edb-60290eea6b53

Please be advised that Microsoft Support will not be able to grant you access to your account.

    Thank you for your understanding.

    Best regards,

    Darhyl

The phone number on the account cannot be changed until successful sign-in or completion of the automated recovery process. Support agents are not allowed to override security info, send codes, or manually unlock consumer Microsoft accounts.

To regain access when the verification code goes to an old, disconnected landline, only the following supported options exist:

    1. Use the account recovery form
      • Go to the Microsoft Account Recovery form: https://account.live.com/acsr
      • Complete it with as much accurate detail as possible (old passwords, subjects of recent emails, contacts, other folders used, etc.).
      • The form can be submitted up to twice per day. If recovery is unsuccessful, review the guidance in “Help with the Microsoft account recovery form” and try again later with more complete information.
    2. Replace old security information (if prompted)
      • When asked to verify identity and only the old landline is shown, choose “I don’t have any of these” if that option appears.
      • Follow the prompts to replace security information. When all old security info is removed and replaced, the account enters a restricted state for about 30 days before full access is restored.
    3. If verification codes are not arriving
      • Do not make repeated or excessive attempts; this can cause temporary blocks where codes are not sent at all.
      • If blocked due to unusual activity or too many attempts, wait the full lockout period (which can be up to several days) before trying again.
    4. Contact Microsoft Support (for guidance only)
      • Go to the Contact Microsoft Support page: https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=2300955
      • Enter the problem and select Get Help, then Contact Support if offered.
      • A support agent can explain the process and help with technical issues, but cannot bypass verification, change the phone number on the account, or unlock it without successful automated verification.

There is no separate phone number that can override the automated security and recovery system for a locked Outlook.com/MSN consumer account. The only way to remove the old landline and regain access is to succeed with the online recovery/verification flow and then update security info at https://account.live.com/proofs/Manage once signed in.
