Using New Outlook on Windows for professional communication and productivity
Hi @Susan Miller,
I hope you are doing well.
Thank you for reaching out regarding how email movement works in the New Outlook for Windows. I am happy to provide some clarification.
In the New Outlook experience, this behavior is expected. Your Inbox and any custom folders are separate storage locations, and an email can only exist in one folder at a time. When an email is moved, it is fully transferred to the destination folder and will no longer appear in the Inbox.
To clarify further, moving an email simply relocates it. The message is not deleted and remains safely accessible whenever you navigate to the folder where it was moved.
If you would prefer emails to remain in your Inbox while also being organized into another folder, you can create a rule to copy emails instead of moving them. To do this, please follow these steps:
- Go to Settings
- Select Mail
- Choose Rules
- Click Add new rule
- Under Add an action, select Copy to
- Choose your desired folder
With this setup, incoming emails will appear in both your Inbox and the selected folder.
I hope this information helps clarify your concern. Please feel free to reach out if you have any further questions or need additional assistance. I am always happy to help.
Thank you for your time and understanding. Wishing you a great rest of your day.
