    Hi, HarvHer.

    Thank you for your reply.

If you need to reset your device, allow me to share a complete step-by-step procedure with you:

Since Surface devices have specific recovery images, they contain drivers that regular Windows images don't have. You can get the Surface-specific recovery image on another device by going to the following site:

Surface Recovery Image Download - Microsoft Support

Get it by logging into your account and entering your device's serial number:

After completing the creation of the recovery drive, continue to refer to the guidelines in the following link to complete the recovery operation:

Creating and using a USB recovery drive for Surface - Microsoft Support

The link shows us a complete demo video and key textual guidelines:

With the above, we were able to complete the reset and formatting of the device.

I wish you all the best.

    Best Regards.

    Hello, HarvHer.

    Welcome to Microsoft Community!

The main function of BitLocker is to protect data from unauthorized access and leakage through full disk encryption and strong authentication mechanisms.

Do you have the Bitlocker recovery key for your current device? Or have you ever set up a recovery key for your device?

BitLocker generates a 48-bit recovery key when it is enabled, and we usually recommend users to backup it to a safe place.

You can try the following methods to retrieve your key:

    1. Microsoft account:

    • Visit the Microsoft Recovery Key page.
    • Log in to the Microsoft account associated with the device.
    • Locate your device and get the recovery key.
    1. Check that you printed or saved the recovery key to a file (e.g. USB drive, external hard disk, or email).
    2. If your device is managed by a business or school, the Recovery Key may be stored in Active Directory. Contact your IT administrator for assistance.

If you are still unable to recover your Bitlocker key, we recommend that you continue to reach out to the MS support you contacted earlier for help with the Bitlocker issue and he will still be able to provide you with more targeted advice.

These are the possibilities I can share with you at this time.

I wish you all the best.

    Best Regards.
