To check and repair classic Outlook for Windows, use both Outlook’s own tools and the Office repair tools.

    1. Repair the Outlook profile
      1. Open Outlook.
      2. Select File.
      3. Select Account Settings > Account Settings.
      4. On the Email tab, select the account, then select Repair.
      5. Follow the wizard and restart Outlook when finished.
    2. Run the classic Outlook connectivity/profile troubleshooter
      1. On the same Windows PC where classic Outlook is installed (Windows 10 or later), run the classic Outlook connectivity troubleshooter from this page: Resolve Outlook for Windows issues with automated troubleshooting tools.
      2. In Get Help, follow the prompts for Outlook startup, profile, or connection issues.
    3. Repair Office from Apps & Features / Control Panel
      1. Close Outlook and all Office apps.
      2. In Windows 10/11, right‑click Start and select Apps and Features (or Installed apps in Windows 11).
      3. Select the Microsoft Office product and choose Modify (or the three dots > Modify).
      4. When prompted:
        • Prefer Online Repair > Repair to fully fix issues. (Quick Repair only replaces corrupted files.)
      5. Follow the on‑screen steps to complete the repair.
Alternatively via Control Panel (Windows 7/8/8.1):
      1. Open Control Panel > Programs > Uninstall a program.
      2. Right‑click the Microsoft Office product and select Change.
      3. Choose Repair (or Online Repair for Click‑to‑Run installs) and complete the wizard.
    4. Repair Outlook data files if Outlook is freezing or behaving oddly
      1. Close Outlook.
      2. Run the Inbox Repair Tool (scanpst.exe) as described here: Repair Outlook Data Files (.pst and .ost).
      3. Let it scan and repair any errors in the data file, then reopen Outlook.
    5. If Outlook still misbehaves, create a new profile
      1. Follow the steps in Create an Outlook profile to create a new profile.
      2. Close Outlook.
      3. Hold Shift and start Outlook.
      4. In Choose Profile, select the new profile and select OK.
      5. If Outlook works correctly with the new profile, the old profile is likely corrupted.

These steps collectively diagnose and repair most classic Outlook for Windows program issues (profile corruption, damaged program files, and damaged data files).
