Open the Camera app in Windows and check if the webcam is working in that app.

    2

If the webcam is working in that app:

    Open the Settings App.

Go to Privacy and Security - Camera.

Ensure permissions to use the webcam is enabled and also ensure those two apps are enabled to access your webcam.

    2

If the webcam is not working in the Camera app:

Look at the function keys (F1 - F12) on your keyboard, if one of them has a camera icon, press that key or Fn + that key to unlock the webcam.

If that was not the problem, look at the camera lens above your screen, is there a small privacy slider that needs to be opened to access the webcam?

If the webcam is still not working, right click your Start Button and open Device Manager.

    Expand the 'Cameras' section.

Please provide a screenshot of that full Device Manager window.

Follow these steps to troubleshoot the camera issue in Google Meet and Zoom on Windows:

    1. Test the camera in the Windows Camera app
      1. Select Start > Camera.
      2. Check if the preview shows the image correctly.
      3. If the camera works here but not in Meet/Zoom, the problem is likely with those apps’ settings.
    2. Check for Windows and driver updates
      1. Select Start > Settings > Windows Update > Check for updates.
      2. If available, select Advanced options > Optional updates and install any camera or driver updates.
      3. Restart the PC using Start > Power > Restart (do not just wake from sleep).
    3. Update the camera driver
      1. Select Start > Device Manager.
      2. Expand Cameras (or Imaging devices / Sound, video and game controllers) and locate the camera.
      3. Right‑click the camera > Update driver.
      4. Choose Search automatically for drivers and let Windows install any found driver.
      5. Restart the PC and test again in Camera, then in Meet/Zoom.
    4. Reinstall or switch camera drivers if needed
      1. In Device Manager, right‑click the camera > Properties > Driver tab.
      2. If the camera stopped working after an update, select Roll Back Driver (if available), then restart and test.
      3. If that does not help, in Device Manager right‑click the camera > Uninstall device, check Delete the driver software for this device (if available), confirm, then from the Action menu select Scan for hardware changes to reinstall the driver and restart.
      4. For USB webcams, if still failing, in Update driver choose Browse my computer for drivers > Let me pick from a list of available drivers on my computer > select USB Video Device and finish the wizard, then test again.
    5. Check antivirus or security software
      1. Open the antivirus/firewall app.
      2. Look for camera/webcam protection and temporarily disable it.
      3. Test the camera in Meet/Zoom; if it works, adjust the antivirus settings to allow camera access.
    6. Verify hardware and physical controls
      1. If using an external webcam, ensure it is firmly connected; try a different USB port.
      2. Check for a physical shutter or privacy slider on the camera and open it.
      3. Some laptops have a function key (for example, Fn + F-key with a camera icon) that enables/disables the webcam; press it once to enable the camera and test again.

If the camera still does not work in any app (including the Windows Camera app) after these steps, check the PC or camera manufacturer’s support page for a specific webcam driver or consider that the camera hardware may be faulty.
