Hi all!

My laptop auto-updated yesterday and since then I cannot log into my PC at all. The Microsoft log-in screen does not react to ANY text or numbers - neither from laptop keyboard, usb one or on-screen keyboard. I tried everything possible of my knowledge and google search to make it work, but absolutely no result, I cannot access my PC :( Restarted numerous times too.

Although, when I open the WiFi password dialogue the laptop keyboard works absolutely fine.

Please Help!! :(

Sorry to hear about that! Do you remember creating a Microsoft account on the store where you purchased it from? Even if you bought it secondhand, sometimes the shop linked it to a temporary Microsoft account they gave you so the bitlocker key might be there.

Alternatively you can also try contacting the store to see if they have the copy of the key.

Please note that this is a public forum, I will be responding you in short period of time and regret for a delay in response. As I am merely a fellow user trying to provide insight and information that may be helpful to others.

    Hi there!

Just to add up to the answer of the AI, you can also try and press this Windows key + Ctrl + Shift + B. This resets graphics/input services of your device, you may hear a beep or see the screen flicker.

Once done, try entering your password again. Additionally, try to click the Accessibility icon (bottom-right) then:

    1. Turn OFF:
    • Sticky Keys
    • Filter Keys
    • Toggle Keys
      • On-screen keyboard

    I hope this helps somehow.

Follow these steps to troubleshoot the sign-in issue where the keyboard does not respond on the Windows 10 sign-in screen:

    1. Restart the device
    • On the sign-in screen, select the Power icon in the lower-right corner.
    • Select Restart.
    • If Windows shows that updates are available, select Update and restart so any pending updates complete. Restarting can clear temporary system errors that affect the sign-in screen.
    1. Try Safe Mode sign-in If the keyboard still does not work on the normal sign-in screen, start Windows in Safe Mode to see if basic drivers and settings work correctly.
    • On the sign-in screen, select the Power icon.
    • Hold down the Shift key and select Restart while still holding Shift.
    • When the Choose an option screen appears, select Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Startup Settings > Restart.
    • After restart, select 5 or press F5 for Safe Mode with Networking.
    • On the Safe Mode sign-in screen, use the keyboard to enter the password (PIN and biometrics are not available in Safe Mode).

If the keyboard works in Safe Mode and sign-in succeeds, the problem is likely caused by a driver, app, or setting that loads only in normal mode. Once signed in, check for Windows updates and driver updates, then restart normally and test again.

    1. Try another account (if available) If multiple accounts exist on the device:
    • On the sign-in screen, select another account from the list in the lower-left corner.
    • If the desired account is not listed, select Other user and enter that account’s credentials.
    • After signing in with another account, check for updates and review account settings, then sign out and test the original account again.

If these steps do not restore keyboard input on the sign-in screen, further in-depth repair (such as using recovery options or reinstalling Windows) may be required.
