Additional Microsoft Entra services and features related to identity, access, and network security
The domain ckcameron.net must first be removed from the old Microsoft Entra tenant before it can be verified in the new tenant. There are two supported approaches, depending on what that old tenant is.
- Check if the old tenant is an unmanaged (self-service) tenant
- If users in the past signed up for services like Power BI, Azure Rights Management, or other self-service offers with ckcameron.net, an unmanaged tenant may have been created.
- In this case, perform an admin takeover of that unmanaged directory:
- Use DNS TXT validation for ckcameron.net as described in the admin takeover process.
- For an external admin takeover (when already managing another tenant), follow the same DNS TXT validation as for adding a custom domain. When ownership is verified, Microsoft Entra ID removes the domain from the unmanaged tenant and moves it into the managed tenant, along with users, subscriptions, and license assignments for supported services.
- For an internal admin takeover, sign in to the unmanaged tenant, create a new onmicrosoft.com admin user, remove the custom domain from that tenant, then add and verify the domain in the desired tenant.
- If the domain is verified in another fully managed tenant you do not control
- Microsoft will not allow the same custom domain to be verified in more than one Microsoft Entra tenant at the same time.
- The domain must be deleted from the old tenant by an administrator of that tenant before it can be added and verified in the new tenant.
- If the old tenant is inaccessible because it is unmanaged, use the admin takeover methods above.
- After the domain is freed from the old tenant
- Sign in to the Microsoft Entra admin center in the new tenant with at least the Domain Name Administrator role.
- Go to Entra ID > Domain names > Add custom domain.
- Add ckcameron.net, then create the required DNS TXT (or MX) record at the domain registrar to verify ownership.
- Complete verification in Entra. If the domain was used for self-service services (like Power BI), ensure any unmanaged tenant has been taken over or the domain removed there first.
If the old tenant is not under control and is not clearly an unmanaged/self-service tenant, direct removal by Microsoft support may be required. In that case, open a support request as a domain owner and be prepared to prove DNS ownership; support can then assist following the same principles (domain must be removed from the old tenant before it can be added to the new one).
