Microsoft for Startups Credits Inaccessible for Months, Blocking Azure Production Launch

We are currently part of Microsoft for Startups / Founders Hub and have been unable to access or use our Azure sponsorship credits that for several months despite multiple support requests and escalation attempts and the credits saying available in our portal.

At this stage, the issue is now impacting our production deployment pipeline and public product launch scheduled for this week.

Our infrastructure and services are dependent on Azure resources tied to the sponsorship credits, and the lack of resolution is creating operational and commercial risk for our team and users.

We have already opened formal support requests 2 months ago ( suggested 8 hour response time), however the issue continues to remain unresolved.

We would appreciate guidance on:

  • How to escalate Azure Sponsorship / Founders Hub credit issues directly
  • Whether there is a dedicated Azure Sponsorship Operations contact
  • How to restore access to sponsorship credits tied to an active startup account

Any assistance from the Azure or Microsoft for Startups team would be greatly appreciated.

We were eventually able to transfer credits to another email, however, we're now facing another issue which we've raised:

    support ID: <PII removed>

It's been 4 days, yet our account promise a response rate within 8 hours.

    Can you advise?

    Hello J Robson

Since your credits are showing as "available" in the portal but you're still unable to use them, let's work through the key things to check and the right escalation paths.

First, confirm a few things on your end:

    • Sign in to the https://www.microsoftazuresponsorships.com and verify your credit balance, expiration date, and that your sponsorship subscription status shows as Enabled (not Disabled or Expired).
    • Make sure you're signing into the Azure portal with the same Microsoft Account (MSA) that was used to redeem the credits. Azure credits are tied to a specific MSA and can't be shared or merged across accounts.
    • In the Azure portal, go to Subscriptions and confirm the Azure Sponsorship subscription is listed and active under that account.

To escalate this properly, here are the supported channels:

    1. Submit a support ticket through the Microsoft for Startups Portal — this is the primary and dedicated path for sponsorship credit issues:
    • Sign in at https://portal.startups.microsoft.com
    • Click the "?" icon in the top-right corner → select "Submit a Support Ticket"
      • Include your Tenant ID, Subscription ID, existing support request numbers, and a clear note that this is blocking production deployment.
    1. Open a support request via the Azure portal — for the billing/subscription side:
    • Go to portal.azure.comHelp + supportCreate a support request
    • Set Issue type to Billing or Subscription Management and reference your sponsorship enrollment
      • You can create a subscription management support request even if your subscription isn't fully accessible yet.
    1. If your startup was approved for $5,000+ in credits, you also have access to Azure Advisory pairing sessions. In the Startups Portal, go to GuidanceGet paired with an advisor — the team typically responds within one business day and can help escalate internally.

One important thing to be aware of: Microsoft restructured the program in mid-2025. If your startup is affiliated with an investor in the Microsoft for Startups Investor Network, you may continue receiving credits under the investor offer. If not, your existing credits remain valid until the current expiration date, after which the subscription converts to pay-as-you-go. It's worth confirming in your support ticket whether this transition has affected your credit provisioning.

Also, keep in mind that Azure credits must be activated within 90 days of accepting the program agreement if that window was missed, the offer expires and you'd need to reapply.

    Official Microsoft documentation for reference:

I hope this helps move things forward. Please let us know how it goes, and if you need further assistance, please do let us know.

    Thanks,
    Suchitra.
