Tools that support reading fluency and comprehension through guided practice and feedback
For younger students on shared iPads, the simplest supported approach is to keep each student signing in with their own account, but make that sign-in as easy as possible. Reading Progress itself does not support educator “impersonation” or a tap-on-name model; it relies on the student being signed in to Teams with their own identity so results flow correctly to the educator and Insights.
On shared or managed iOS devices, the sign-in experience to Teams can be simplified using domain-less sign-in. With this configuration, the domain part of the username is prefilled, so students only type the first part of their UPN (for example, just a numeric ID) plus their password, instead of the full email address. This reduces the complexity of sign-in for younger learners on shared devices.
To use this on iPads:
- Ensure the iPads are managed (for example, via an MDM such as Intune) and are running Teams for iOS version 6.6.0 or later.
- Configure an app configuration policy for Teams using the managed app configuration channel for iOS.
- Set the
domain_namevalue so Teams automatically appends the school’s domain. - If student IDs are numeric, set
enable_numeric_emp_id_keypadtotrueso a numeric keypad appears, making entry easier.
Students then:
- Open Teams on the iPad.
- Enter only their short ID (without the domain) and password.
- Go to the class team → Assignments → open the Reading Progress assignment and complete it as usual.
This preserves per-student data and Insights while minimizing the amount of typing required for younger students on shared iPads.
