Presenter and Attendee Links - Teams Town Hall

Is the Presenter Link (Org internal presenter, not external presenter) the same link as the Attendee Link? Is the Presenter recognized by their email address, which was added as a Presenter during scheduling, when logging in and therefore deemed Presenter upon login?

    Hi @Anonymous 1,

Thank you for posting your question in the Microsoft Q&A forum.

I appreciate your interest in understanding how presenter and attendee roles are managed in Microsoft Teams Town Hall. To clarify, all participants, whether presenters or attendees, use the same join link, typically shared via calendar invite or email. Microsoft Teams does not generate separate links based on participant roles.

Instead, role recognition is determined by the email address used to join the event. When presenters join the Town Hall using the shared link and sign in with their authenticated Teams account, Teams automatically identifies them as presenters and grants the appropriate permissions, while participants who join using an email address not assigned as a presenter will be admitted as attendees by default.

To verify this behavior, I conducted a test by creating a Town Hall and signing in with two separate accounts, one assigned the presenter role during scheduling, and the other left as a standard attendee. In this scenario, the Town Hall had not yet been started by the organizer or any presenter.

The presenter account was able to access the event and begin preparations, while the attendee account was blocked from joining until a presenter had entered. This confirms that Teams accurately enforces role-based access based on the assigned email.

To further illustrate this, I’ve included screenshots showing the experience from both roles:

Presenter View: able to access the Town Hall in advance and begin setup, even before the event officially starts.

Attendee View: Restricted from joining until a presenter has entered the session, ensuring proper event flow and control.

I hope this information helps clarify how role-based access works in Microsoft Teams Town Hall and gives you confidence in configuring presenter and attendee permissions effectively.

Thank you again for your thoughtful question and for helping make the Microsoft Q&A forum a valuable resource for everyone. If you have any further questions, please feel free to reach out.

I'm looking forward for your reply.
